![]() It's an incredible power anyway, to make people experience the pain that they caused, and it's effective even on Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, so imagine how much s**t he's giving himself about that. There's all these books. There's one where he does the penance stare on Galactus, which is incredible. I have one where it's Johnny Blaze travels back in time and then is side-by-side with Carter Slade, so there's the Phantom Rider. It's the Dan Ketch Ghost Rider, which is a really good run. Luna: There's a run where it's the Punisher, Wolverine and Ghost Rider together. IGN: When you were doing your research, what were the comics and the arcs that helped you figure out who your version of Robbie would be? I think Jed and Mo and the writing team has done a really good job of doing that. So I think it's a great balance of being new and fresh and exciting, and also maintaining the proper dosage of the history and mythos of the character. They do a deal with the Devil or they do a deal with Mephisto or whoever, or you have to have this bargain with this spirit Eli who lives in Robbie, which is part of the all new Ghost Rider. It's the same tragic story of this curse that they have. We read all those books, and what I'm happy about is we infuse it with that dynamic. We all grew up with it, and we all got to continue to enjoy it and be kids. That's what Kevin Feige and Jeph Loeb and these guys have built. I was talking to my little brother about it, who's got an encyclopedic knowledge of Marvel Comics - he's a grown man now, he's 31. But I think it's important to carry in a lot of the influence from those other books, because the idea of that alter ego, that spirit, there's always a fight. Every generation has a different Rider, and the Spirit of Vengeance has traveled and inhabited everyone, from Carter Slade on down. Luna: The most important way is it's a young fresh face. What do you think is the most important way that your depiction of Robbie Reyes is differentiated from that last, still-familiar live action Ghost Rider? IGN: There are multiple Ghost Riders, but the one most people probably know is Johnny Blaze, who Nicolas Cage played in the movies. It's a whole new frontier, which is always cool. Now you're incorporating some of these things that they may not understand. Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is a bridge between us the audience and the MCU. They've always been rooted in a very realistic kind of depiction. Gabriel Luna: With that kind of title - one of the tentpoles of the company and has been since the Silver Age of comics - it's immediately going to energize the whole thing and infuse it and give it a sense of danger. IGN: From your perspective, why do you think it was important to bring in Robbie Reyes on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD? Get to know Luna a bit better by reading our Q&A with him below. And if they want more, the networks say, oh, we want more." So, I think our job, our task, is always going to be, how do we tell the story in the most compelling way? And if we can tell that story in a compelling way, then the thing to do is to then have people want more. So does that mean there's a chance this depiction of Ghost Rider could venture into other sections of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? "At the end of the day, that's not really my decision," said Loeb. If it's cool and if it's fun and if they engage with it the way that we already have engaged with Gabe, I think there's an opportunity not only to tell stories - the really good Ghost Rider stories - within our family, but then who knows where it goes? Who knows where he rides off to?" ![]() But if for some reason I've lapsed and I haven't been watching SHIELD, now I'm going, you know what, ten o'clock, Tuesday nights, not a whole lot less I'm going to be watching. And that you're suddenly going, oh, first of all, if I'm a longtime watcher of SHIELD, I'm going, cool - cannot wait. "What makes it exciting is that it's on SHIELD. "So we looked at all the various places that it could be, and in many ways, the fact that it was so unexpected for it to be on SHIELD. And we just knew that this character was right to tell those stories right now," he said. "We had a long talk with ABC about what can we get away with, so to speak. time slot opened up Agents of SHIELD to get into some of the violence and darkness explored in the Marvel Netflix shows. On paper it might seem like it makes more sense for Ghost Rider to join the likes of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones on Netflix. ![]()
